Sulden/Solda- to the easiest peak above 3000m in the Ortler region: Hintere Schöntaufspitze
At a glance: a full-day tour to an “easy” peak above 3000 m. By cable-car from Sulden, South Tyrols's highest village, up to the high regions and then an alpine walk without particular difficulties. Wonderful panoramic views over the whole Ortler range. Rest stop possible on the cable-car upper terminal, on the hut Schaubachhütte (2573 m) or the hut Madritschhütte (2817 m).
Best time: Summer and autumn till October, best months are July and September
Rewards: the grandiose panoramic views of the photogenic trio of mountains, Ortler, Zebru and Königsspitze
Effort: 750 m of easy to medium ascent, high alpine equipment necessary, not difficult, very rewarding, total walking time: 4 hours
Starting point: Sulden (1844 m), reachable by car. The walk starts from the upper terminal (2581 m) of the cable-car (first ride in summer at 7 am)
The route: at the end of the valley Sulden take the
1) cable-car, then on path no. 151 gently upwards to the Madritschjoch and then along an easy ridge to the
2) summit of the Hintere Schöntaufspitze (3320 m). Return the same way.
